Professor Sofia Chatziioannou is an internationally recognized specialist in Nuclear Medicine, with extensive clinical, research, and teaching experience in Greece and the United States. She has made significant contributions to the advancement of molecular imaging and nuclear therapies, offering state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with neurological and oncological conditions.

Professor Sofia Hatziioannou graduated from the NKUA Medical School in 1991 and pursued postgraduate studies and specialty training at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute in the United States. She completed an internship in Pathology, a residency in Nuclear Medicine, and a fellowship in Nuclear Cardiology, and in 1997 she was certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.
She served as Assistant Professor and Director of Research at Baylor College of Medicine and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. Since 2003 she has returned to Greece, holding key positions at Attikon University Hospital and the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA). Since 2019 she has been Professor of Nuclear Medicine at NKUA.
Her research activity includes over 100 international publications, hundreds of citations, and participation in multicenter studies. She has received several distinctions, including the 1st Scientific Award from the American Society of Nuclear Medicine (1997). She was also instrumental in establishing Attikon Hospital as a reference center for PRRT therapies in neuroendocrine tumors, accredited by ENETS.
