Nikolaos Scarmeas is a Professor of Neurology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a highly regarded clinician-scientist in the field of cognitive neurology. He completed his medical training at NKUA and pursued his neurology residency, fellowship in Cognitive Neurology and Neuroimaging, as well as a Master’s degree in Biostatistics - Epidemiology at Columbia University in New York, where he also served as faculty for several years.

His research focuses on the epidemiology and risk factors of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, including the role of lifestyle, nutrition, and cognitive reserve in brain health. He has led and participated in large-scale international research programs funded by the NIH, Alzheimer’s Association, and European research frameworks.

Professor Scarmeas has published extensively in high-impact international journals and has been cited thousands of times, establishing him as among the leading authorities in the field. His work bridges clinical practice and research, translating findings into preventive and therapeutic strategies for patients
