Professor Georgios Velonakis is an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Radiology – Neuroradiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and a recognized Neuroradiologist with extensive clinical, research, and academic activity. He holds the European Diploma in Neuroradiology (EDiNR) as well as the European Diploma in Pediatric Neuroradiology (EDiPNR).
He completed his Neuroradiology Fellowship at the University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium through a scholarship from the European Society of Neuroradiology, gaining experience in oncologic, neurodegenerative, pediatric, vascular, and demyelinating disorders, as well as in advanced imaging techniques (f-MRI, DTI-tractography).
In parallel with his clinical work, he has an extensive teaching portfolio at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, participating in more than eight Postgraduate Programs of the NKUA Medical School. He has supervised PhD theses and Master's dissertations and has made a significant contribution to international and national conferences, with over 120 invited lectures and more than 240 scientific presentations.
His research activity includes over 165 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, focusing particularly on neuroimaging, especially in neurodegenerative diseases, demyelinating disorders, and cerebrovascular events.
